The Tales Behind Holy Amarnath Cave Temple

  Amarnath Cave is a holy pilgrim site in Kashmir, the beautiful northernmost state in India. There is no manmade shrine or idol here. The huge Shiva Linga, totally made of ice, is worshipped in this cave. Two smaller ice formations are seen here, believed to be depictions of Mother Parvati and Lord Ganesha, respectively.  One day, Mother Parvati asked Lord Shiva about the reasons for His immortality. Lord Shiva agreed to tell Her everything, but in a secluded place. He rode on His Vahana Nandi, the great bull. He was accompanied by Mother Parvati and their son Lord Ganesha. They arrived in the Kashmir valley.   It is believed that Lord Shiva left Nandi at Pahalgaon, which was also called Bail Gaon or the village of the bull.   Then He took the crescent Moon from His head and left it in Chandanwari.
